2014 World Car Sales: Honda started the year booming while Hyundai outpaced Chevrolet in fourth place.

In January 2014, accordingly with data aggregated by focus2move Research Team from their over 250 global sources, the World’s Car Sales have been 6.8 million, with a little 1.5% increase from year ago, slowering the pace after the strong 8% increase shown in last December.

The Top three brands have posted a growth significantly better than the average, with Toyota sales at 643k, up 34k or 5.6%, followed by Volkswagen with 591k, up 46k or 8.5% and Ford in third with 432k , up 36k or 9.2%. Remarkable the Ford performance, considering the slow start of North American region where Ford is leader with a still high weight on total sales. After having scored the highest 2013 increase, Ford started again very fast, better than expected by our Experts.

Hyundai advanced in fourth place selling 368k. It is not the first time as in single month Hyundai had already temporary taken this place. The advantage over Chevrolet was limited at 4k although Hyundai was up 2.1% and Chevrolet was down 7.2% or 28k, the third highest year-on-year loss among the Top50 Brands.

Nissan in 6th was stable while Honda in seventh and second fastest brand in 2013, scored be best performance of the month, with sales up 21.5% or 58k. Honda performance was driven by wonderful results in China and Japan.

Improving sales by 11%, Peugeot was 9th and second best European brand outpacing at same time Renault and Fiat, both losing from January last year.

Looking at premium brand competition, Audi was the best with 127k, followed by Mercedes and BMW with 115k. However the fastest growing premium brand was Buick, 17th in absolute, up 5 spots from 2013, with 114k, up 13k and 13%.

Great Wall and ChanAn had been the worst brands in the Top50 as year-on-year performance losing respectively 43k and 42k.
