Argentina: in 2012 Car Market fell 4%. Volkswagen market leader.

In December 2012, the Argentinian car market posted the 7th consecutive decline losing 5.9% from last year and the year ended losing 4.6% from the 2011, however achieving the second best ever volume. Ford Ecosport entered in the Top 10 ranking.

In December, the light passenger vehicles market in Argentina was 34.497 units, down 5.9% due to many sales registration postponed to the next year by the OEMs. The full year ended at 805.923 sales, down 4.6% from last year, the second best ever year.

Looking at the best brands performance in December:

Chevrolet surged in 1st position (2nd year-to-date) selling 6.462 units with a share of 18.7%, up 3.4 points of share from the previous month. During the 2012 Chevrolet sold 133.573 with a share of 16.6%. The best-selling model was the Classic, 2nd this month, while the Celta was 11th.

Volkswagen got down to the 2nd position, selling 6.408 units with a share of 18.6%, down 1.6 points of share from the previous month. In 2012 Volkswagen sold 162.167 units with a share of 20.1%. The best-selling model was the Gol, the market leader.

Ford was 3rd (4th year-to-date) with 5.350 units and a share of 15.5%, up 3.1 points of share from the previous month. This year Ford sold 98.346 units with a share of 12.2%. The Ka was 3rd this month, followed by the Ecosport was 8th.

Renault was 4th (3rd year-to-date) with 4.216 units with a share of 12.2%, down 1.9 points from the previous month. During this year Renault sold 119.002 with a share of 14.8%. The best-selling model was the Kangoo, 4th this month.

Peugeot was 5th, with 3.278 units and a share of 9.5%, down 1.4 points from the previous month. During the 2012 Peugeot sold 80.623 units with a share of 10.0%.The best-selling model was the 207, 5th this month, while the Partner was 12th.

Fiat was 6th selling 3.174 units with a share of 9.2%, down 0.2 points from the previous month. Sales in 2012 were 80.398 with a share of 10.0%. The Siena was 14th.

Toyota in 7th sold 1.864 units with a share of 5.4%, down 0.7 points from the previous month. During this year Toyota sold 45.004 units with a share of 5.6%.

Citroen was 8th, selling 1.703 units with a share of 4.9%, up 0.2 points from the previous month. Sales in 2012 were 30.702 with a share of 3.8%.

Looking at the best models performance, the Volkswagen Gol in 1st sold 2.407 units with a share of 7.0%, down 0.9 points from the previous month. Sales in 2012 were 62.625 with a share of 7.8%.

The Classic was 2nd, selling 1.935 units with a share of 5.6%, up 1.2 points from the previous month, followed by the Ka in 3rd (6th last month) with 1.432 units and a share of 4.2%, up 0.9 points from November.

The Renault Kangoo was 4th (26th last month) selling 1.224 units with a share of 3.5%, up 2.4 points from the previous month, followed by the Peugeot 207 in 5th, with 1.183 units and 3.4% of share, down 0.1 points from November.

The Hilux was 6th (4th last month) selling 1.129 units with a share of 3.3%, down 0.2 points from the previous month, followed by the Suran in 7th (3rd last month) with 1.086 units and a share of 3.1%, down 0.8 points from November.

The new Ford Ecosport was 8th (28th last month) selling 1.043 units with a share of 3.0%, up 2.9 points from the previous month, followed by the Ranger in 9th (7th last month) with 1.002 units and a share of 2.9%, down 0.1 points, and by the Ford Fiesta in 10th (30th last month) with 935 units and a share of 2.7%, up 1.7 points from November.

Behind it was a good month for the Peugeot Partner in 12th, up 19 spots from November, and for the Citroen Berlingo in 28th, up 21 spots. It wasn’t good for the Chevrolet Agile in 17th, down 8 spots from the previous month, and for the Peugeot 308 in 22nd, down 24 spots.
