Australia: 2013 Sales at New All-Time Record. Mitsubishi and Hyundai ix35 Best of the Year.

Accordingly with data released by F.C.A.I., the Australian Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, in December total light passenger vehicles sold in Australia were 94.561, down 0.1% from last year.

Full Year sales were at 1.129.309 vehicles, up 2.5% from last year.

Releasing the 2013 full-year sales results, FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber said he saw some interesting trends in 2013. This included the continuing popularity of the small passenger car, the strong growth in the small SUV market and the significant increase in private buyer purchases of light commercial vehicles.

“Passenger cars remained the largest selling category in 2013 with 49.9 per cent of the market. However, this is a slight decrease compared to 2012, where passenger cars held 51.7 per cent of the market,” Mr. Weber said.

“The SUV and light commercial segments increased their share of the market in 2013, holding 29.4 and 18 per cent, respectively, compared to 27.6 and 17.8 per cent in 2012.”

Sharing general evaluation on Brands & Models performance, based not only on volume but also on results compared with potential, focus2move Team quoted the Best of the Year 2013, as Brand and Model. This was the result:

Brand of Year was Mitsubishi ranked in 7th with 6.3% of share, up 1.0 points from 2012. Second was Jeep ranked in 13th with share at 2.0%, up 0.5 from 2012. Third was Fiat in 23rd, with share at 0.4%, up 0.3 points from 2012.

Model of Year was Hyundai ix35 in 13th place with share at 1.7%, up 0.7 points. Second was Mitsubishi Triton, 7th at 2.2% of share, up 0.5 points from 2012. Third was Mazda CX-5 ranked 11Th with 1.8% of share, up 0.4 points from 2012.

Looking at the best brands performance last month:

Toyota sold 19.610 vehicles with a share of 20.3%, up 1.6 points from November. Full Year sales were 214.630 with share at 19.0%, down 0.8 points from 2012. Corolla, the bestselling model worldwide, was leader in Australia with over 43.000 units, keeping the crown to Mazda3 after three years and just with 1.500 unit’s margin. Leader of pick up segment was Hilux, third in absolute, while Camry ranked 6th.

Holden in second sold 9.150 vehicles with a share of 9.5%, down 1.3 points from the previous month. Full Year sales were 112.059 with share at 9.9%, down 0.5 points from last year. The Commodore was the best-selling model and ranked 5th while Cruze was 8th and Colorado 15th.

Mazda advanced in third with 8.526 sales and share at 8.8%, up 0.1 points from November. Full Year Mazda was third with 103.144 units and 9.1% of share, down 0.3 points from last year. In 2013, Mazda3 has lost the leadership among models, due to second generation run out. However, the New Mazda3, just launched was immediately on top in December. CX-5 ranked 11th and Mazda2 18th, at the best place worldwide.

Hyundai was fourth, down 1 spot, selling 7.747 vehicles with share down at 8.0%, losing 0.8 points from November. Full Year Hyundai was fourth with 97.006 sales and a share of 8.6%, up 0.3 points from 2012. The best-selling model was the i30 in 4thplace, with ix35 13th and i20 in 22nd.

Ford was 5th with 6.872 sales and share at 7.1%, down 1.1 points from November. Full Year sales were 87.236 with a share of 7.7%, down 0.5 points from last year. Ranger was the top model in 10th place, with Focus in 12th and Territory in 21st.

Mitsubishi was 6th , up 1 spot, with 6.706 sales and share at 6.9%, up 1.6 points from November. Full Year sales were 71.528 with 6.3% of market share, up 1.0 points from last year. The top model was again the Triton ranking in 7th with Lancer was 27th.

Nissan ranked 7th, down 1 spot, with 6.571 sales and share at 6.8%, up 1.1 points from November. Full Year Nissan ranked 6th with 76.734 sales and 6.8% of share, down 0.4 points from 2012. The top model Navara ranked 9th in the year.

Volkswagen was 8th, selling 4.650 units with a share of 4.8%, down 0.3 points from November. Full Year sales were 54.892 with a share of 4.9%, down 0.3 points from last year. The Top model Golf ranked 14th.
