Australia: 2012 car industry runs towards the record!

Following the strong start of the year, focus2move.com Research Team is projecting the entire year around the new all time record, at 1.1 million vehicles, with an acceleration foreseen in the next months and a decline in the year over year performance, starting with September.

Last year the Australian market suffered for Japanese products and parts shortage from April to September. Shortage was created by March tsunami.

Toyota is by far the market leader. In this quarter the Japanese Brand registered 47.375 cars, with the 18.7% market share. Domestic producer, Holden (controlled by GM Group) was the second with 28.945 sales and 11.4% market share. Third is Mazda, a brand able to achieve in Australia the best performance in the Top 30 global market. With 26.513 vehicles, Mazda gained 10.5 market share.

Mazda3 in the 2011 was the first imported model to lead the Australian market after 15 years. The surprise is that Mazda3 was able to reinforce its leadership this year, with 11.596 sales and 4.5% market share. The New Toyota Corolla is the second, with 9.494 units and 3.6% market share, slightly ahead of Holden Commodore and Cruze.
