Australia March Car Market was flat while Corolla outpaced Mazda3.

In March 2014, accordingly with preliminary data released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, total light vehicles sold have been 97.367, flat from last year. First quarter figures were 265.067, down 2.9% or 8k units from last year, the best all-time.

Following the launch of Corolla sedan derivative, Toyota Australia kept back the best-selling model crown selling more than 4000 Corollas last month and defeating the Mazda3 for the first time this year, right when third generation of Mazda3 was finally on sale.

Toyota remained easily on top of the monthly and first quarter sales table, helped by the strong sales on the pick-up Hilux, third with 3.104 units, RAV4 (at 1.888), Prado (at 1.719) and Camry (2.086).

Holden was stable with share at 10.0% and outpaced Mazda, slipped down due to constraints on new Mazda3.

Last month Hyundai was fourth ahead of Ford, which sold about 900 Territory and 2.300 Rangers, followed by Nissan, Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, Subaru and Kia. Honda fell outside the top 10 in March and, like Nissan and Mitsubishi, its sales remain down significantly so far this year. It’s understood all three brands continue to clear stock registered in December (see our previous report on Cyber sales).
