Belgium car market down 11% in March. Nissan and Seat up.

March was almost negative for the Belgium car market, one of the few in Europe to end the first quarter in positive. Following a good start of the year, March represented a rude awakening for the market. Sales were 53.076, down 11.4% from last year. In the first quarter, car sold were 149.160, up 0.5%.

Looking at the best brands performance:

Volkswagen in 1st posted a positive month, selling 5.914 units with a share of 11.1%, up 1.4 points of share from the previous month and down 0.6 points from the last quarter of 2012. Year-to-date March sales were 14.766 with a share of 9.9%.

Renault recovered its 2nd position, gaining the 2 places lost in February, with 5.056 sales and a share of 9.5%, up 2.0 points of share from the previous month and down 0.2 points from the Q4 of 2012. Year-to-date sales were 13.138 with a share of 8.8%.

Peugeot was 3th selling 4.067 vehicles with a share of 7.7%, down 0.1 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 11.547 with a share of 7.7%.

Citroen fell to the 4th position, losing 2 spots from February, selling 3.780 units with a share of 7.1%, down 1.0 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 11.187 with a share of 7.5%.

Opel was 5th selling 3.774 vehicles, only 6 units less than Citroen, with a share of 7.1%, down 0.1 points from the previous month. Year-to-date March sales were 10.565 with a share of 7.1%.

BMW was 6th (7th year-to-date) losing 1 spot from February, with 3.016 sales and a share of 5.7%, stable from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 10.187 with a share of 6.8%.

Audi was 7th (6th year-to-date) selling 2.859 with a share of 5.4%, down 0.2 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 8.003 with a share of 5.4%.

Ford was 8th (9th year-to-date) selling 2.662 with a share of 5.0%, up 1.0 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 6.672 with a share of 4.5%.
