Belgium Car market Renault-Scenic_XMOD_2013

Belgium Car Market shy in the first half despite a little recover in June when Renault took the leadership thanks to booming sales of the Scenic, new market leader ahead of Volkswagen Golf and Polo.

Economic Outlook

Belgium’s economic recovery continues to gather pace, albeit slowly. Economic growth picked up modestly in the first quarter of 2015, driven largely by strengthening private consumption and an improvement in fixed investment.

Unemployment has steadily fallen throughout the year and industrial production rebounded in May. Moreover, while the external sector weakened in the first quarter of 2015, exports are expected to pick up throughout the year along with Eurozone demand.

Almost 80% of Belgium’s exports are to European nations and the current government’s policies of wage restraint have helped boost competitiveness.

Market Outlook

Following three years of decline, in the 2015 Belgium car market was expected to a recovery with volume nearly above the half a million cars. However, the year started slow with the first half down 1 percent and a shy recovery in the second.

In June, according to data released by FEBIAC total new passengers cars sold have been 49.426, up 14.9% from the correspondent month last year.

The  cumulative sales in the first half had been 288.024, up a little 0.2% from the previous year. The market will not reach the half a million target at the end of the year but already a positive year on year performance will be good.

Competitive Arena

In June a new leader was on top of the list thanks to the daring Renault performance with 6.469 sales (+29.7%) that was better than Volkswagen’s at 5.977 (+32.3%).
