Reports

Brazil car market boomed in June at +19% Fiat leads with share at 22%.

In the first 5 months of the year, in spite sales were declining 4%, Brazil was the fifth world’s car market, as reported in a recent research (“Top 25 global car markets report“). The market is suffering for the negotiation in place between government and car makers around the taxation of the entire car system. The Government aims to limit the amount of imported vehicles (actually at 25% of total) and components. At the end of June, Brazil and Argentina announced the creation of a common table of discussion to define a common policy.

The market is living this period with hopes and uncertain and is not performing as could be. In spite of robust June increase, Fenebrave (the local dealer association) has maintained its full year 2012 forecast at 3.545.000 units, while focus2move.com, more conservative in the previous forecast, has now upgraded the 2012 volume at 3.520.000, 3% up from last year.

In June, Fiat confirmed the market leadership with 75.247 sales and 22.1% of market share, up 0.4 points of share from previous month. After a difficult May, Volkswagen recovered the second position with 71.508 sales and 21.0% of share, up 1.2 from May.

Chevrolet was third, with 57.508 sales and 16.9% of share, returning at its normal performance of 16.9% of share, after the May peak of 20.0%.

Ford was fourth with 9.9% of share, the best of the year, ahead of Renault with 7.1% of share, the yearly best as well.

Honda confirmed the sixth position achieved in May, further improving the share, now at 4.4%, up 0.5 points of share from previous month. In July Honda should achieve the sixth position also in the year to date ranking, surpassing Nissan.

June was very negative for Koreans, with Hyundai dropped at 2.0% of share, down 0.7 points from May, and Kia at 1.1%, down 0.4 points of share.
