Canada: car market grew 7% in July while Chevrolet dropped back.

In July the light passengers vehicles sold in Canada were 159.186, up 7.3%. Year to date sales were 1.043.789 units were up only 2.3% from the previous year.

The North American Chevrolet is living a drama in this market. While started the year fighting with Toyota for the second place, in July it dropped in fifth place, with Hyundai very narrow and ready to surpass Chevrolet for the third place. It sounds incredible but the first model placed by Chevrolet is out of the top ten.

From the other side, very strong performance had been posted by Dodge, Ram, Mazda and Honda.

Looking at the best brands performance:

Ford passed a not easy month as the performance declined at lowest level in the year. However, with 24.673 sales it was ahead of any competitors and the share at 15.5%, was down 0.9 points from July, but only 0.6 points from YTD. In the first seven months sales were 168.512 with F-Series as market leader and Escape in 8th place.

Toyota kept the 2nd place selling 15.719 units with a share of 9.9%, up 0.2 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 103.127 with a share of 9.9%. Toyota held 3 models in the top 30, with the Corolla in 8th position in July and in 7th YTD.

Hyundai advanced in 3rd place selling 13.613 units with a share of 8.6%, up 0.1 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales it was 4th while reducing the gap from Chevrolet at few units. Sales were 85.389 with a share of 8.2%. The best-selling model was the Elantra in 4th position.

Chevrolet posted an awful month selling 11.298 vehicles with a share dropped at 7.1%, down 1.5 points from the previous month and behind overtaken by Hyundai and Honda. Year-to-date it is ranked in third but the risk to lose further terrain in high. There is no any Chevrolet in the Top Ten models!
