Canada Chrysler Group leads March Car Market. See All Brands ranking.

According to Desrosiers Automotive Reports,  March 2014 passenger car sales slid 6% and accounted for just 42% of total sales. Everything that isn’t a car – a group which includes SUVs and crossovers and minivans and pickup trucks – were up 5%. Total market sales have been 157.228, up only 0.3% and over 2k below our forecast. First quarter sales were 358.899, up 0.9% or 3k units from last year.

Ford sold 21.895 units with share fallen at 13.9%, down 1.2 points from the previous year ending the worst quarter in five years (as market share) at 14.5% down 1.4 points from last year.

Toyota was second with 15.509, with share near 10% not enough to recovery the quarterly share gap to last year. Chevrolet in third sold 13.715 units recovering share at 8.7% but not enough to close positively the quarter.

Behind, Honda, Hyundai and Nissan had been all very positive in March.

Despite all brands have lost terrain from February, Chrysler Group was Canada’s leading manufacturer for the third consecutive month, outselling Ford by 2.259 units in the month and 7.726 units in the quarter.

Leading all luxury brands in March 2014 was Mercedes-Benz, which outsold struggling BMW by more than 1000 units. Audi was third and Lexus fourth.
