Colombia Car Market dropped 11% in first half 2013. Chevrolet dominates.

The first half 2013 was really negative for the light passenger vehicles market in Colombia with all the sixth months losing terrain compared with year ago.

June, with 23.576 sales was down 8.4% from 2012, posting the twelve year-on-year decline out of last thirteen months.

Second half it is foreseen with a little recovery. However BBVA forecast at 315.000 units should not be achieved. Focus2move projects sales at 302.000.

Looking at the best brands performance:

Chevrolet dominated the market as always, selling 6.329 vehicles with a share of 26.8%, up 2.1 points of share from the previous month. I Half year-to-date sales were 36.747 with a share of 26.2%.

Renault was 2nd, selling 3.544 units with a share of 15.0%, up 0.1 points of share from the previous month. First Half sales were 19.343 with a share of 13.8%. Second quarter was really strong.

Hyundai was 3rd, up 1 spot from 2012 and 2013 ranks, with 2.164 sales and a share of 9.2%, down 0.1 points of share from the previous month. Sales in the first half were 12.938 with a share of 9.2%.

Kia was 4th selling 2.114 vehicles with a share of 9.0%, down 0.7 points of share from the previous month. Sales in the first half were 13.541 with a share of 9.7%.

Nissan was 5th selling 1.423 units with a share of 6.0%, down 0.1 points from the previous month. Sales in first half were 9.469 with a share of 6.8%.

Ford was 6th selling 1.293 vehicles with a share of 5.5%, down 0.2 points of share from the previous month. First half sales were 7.188 with a share of 5.1%.

Chevrolet dominion among brands is confirmed when looking at models. In June the new leader, Chevrolet Sail, confirmed the strong sales level with 1.378 units registered and 5.8% of share.

Chevrolet Spark, leader until last year, was second with 1.313 units and 5.6% of share, while new Chevrolet Tracker was 7th and the sedan Sonic was 10th. Four models by Chevrolet in top ten!

Renault posted Sandero in third, as in full year 2012, Logan in 4th and Duster in 6th.

Only Korean brand were able to post their models in top ten: Hyundai with the City ranked 5th and Kia was 8th and 9th with Rio and Picanto.
