European Car Market fell 10% in March. Statistics on All Countries.

“The worst is yet to come!” was focus2move comment at the February 9.5%. One month later, while the car market had lost in March another 10.2%, new economic data project longer effects of current economic crisis on consumer’s demand.

March sales in Europe were 1.345.000, down 10.2% with first quarter sales at 3.092.000, down 9.8%.

In March, a new record was beaten, unfortunately: only 5 countries out of the 27 reported a not negative year-on-year performance, showing how deep and extended the recession is. They were United Kingdom, up 5.9%, Denmark, up 12.9%, Hungary, 6.3%, Estonia, 3.0% and Iceland, 13.9%. A part UK, they are all small markets.

Following last year’s strong volume reduction in the Mediterranean countries, this year the Continental Europe lead the fall: Germany was down 17.1%, France, -16.2%, The Netherlands 31.4%, Austria 18.1%, Poland 14.2%, Sweden 21.2% and so on for the entire continent.

A suggestion for people working in the European Automotive Sector: in future, forget the past!
