Finland: March ended a strong Q1 2014. Volkswagen & Toyota head to head!

In March 2014, accordingly with data released by Autoalan Tiedotuskeskus, the Finnish Information Centre of Automobile Sector, new Car Passengers sold in Finland have been 9.549, up 0.6% from year ago. March was the weaker in this first part of the year, following a robust +22% scored in January and a +3.6% of February. However, first quarter was ended ver well, following a 2013 when the market has lost over 7%, with quarterly sales at 30.316, up 9.7%.

Light Commercial Vehicles segment was positive as well with monthly increase of 4.4%, 8.9% and 5.1% respectively for the first three months of the year, with a quarterly figures at 2.702 units, up 6.0% from year ago.

The Finnish car market is very interesting for the battle over the leadership. Last year Volkswagen and Toyota have been protagonist of a head to head run until the last day, with a marginal victory for the German. This year the battle has been renovated. Toyota was ahead in January, while Volkswagen was first in February and in March taking the quarterly supremacy for few units, with 3.629 sales just 19 units more than the Japanese.

Behind, Skoda confirmed the third place but improved the share from 8.1% in 2013 to 9.5% in Q1 2014.  Volvo advanced in fourth place, up 1 spot from 2013, followed by Nissan, Kia and Ford all very close.
