In the first quarter the figures increased by 6% to 711.700 vehicles. Export business has also continued to expand.”

Pushed by the European market recovery, the automotive domestic production continued its gains in March, turning in growth of 10% to reach 519.700 passenger cars. Over the first quarter the increase in production came to 11% “This shows that the attractive new models from German OEMs are in demand the world over,” Wissmann said.

In March the market leader Volkswagen retailed 58.798 units losing share at 19.8%, down 0.4 from the previous month. First quarter sales were 148k losing 0.8 points of share from 2013.

Audi is struggling and sold only 24.4k units with share fell at 8.2%, down 1.1 points from the previous month and losing the second place taken by Mercedes, more stable across the quarter, despite ending losing half a point of share from full year 2013.

BMW in fourth place was stable, with monthly share at 8.0% and quarterly at 7.9%, up 0.1 points from 2013. Stable was also the Opel and Ford performance while Skoda improved quarterly share by 0.4 points from last year.

Despite the growing trend all around the World, Land Rover is still struggling in Germany, with share stable at a low 0.5%.
