Global automotive industry at best first half ever; See top 100 markets statistics in this report. In June the first decline of China anticipate the start of a grey period expected for the second half of this year.

Global Market Outlook

Following a long positive period of growth with annual all time record scored since the 2010, the global automotive industry at the end of 2014 started showing signs of weakness. Few relevant markets started reporting heavy lost – Russia and Brazil overall – but the recovery of European countries and stable trends in China and USA had allowed further positive data.

The 2014 ended at all time record of 87 million units, while year on year speed weakened each month. The trend unchanged in the first part of 2015. While Europe has intensified the recovery, Asean Markets and Japan had been negative.

However, the most significant critical factor arrived from China, the market representing over 27 percent of global volume. Local observers reported real data lower than those officially reported by the local industry association. While CHina data had been positive in all the first half, dealers stock moved up and the risk of a sharp sudden decline increased.

Anyhow the 2015 first half ended with the highest sales level ever, with 44.3 million light vehicles sold, up 1.7% from the correspondent period last year.

In May the global automotive industry sales had been down 0.9%, breaking a growing series started in March 2013. In June the global sales rose 3.0% albeit China declined 0.8%, first time since February 2013.

Best 100 Markets ranking

China official numbers are still positive with over 12.06 million vehicles (+3.7%). Chinese market grew at 27.6% of global sales. USA market grew 4.4% at 8.1 million projecting the year near the all time record.

In third, Japan is one of the three large markets down. However, in this case the expected recovery is already in the near period. Year to date June sales had been 2.9 million (-9.3%). Losing 19.7%, Brazil has lost three spots and now ranks in 7th, outpaced by Germany, India and UK.

Russia has lost 36.4% falling from 8th to 12th place, while Italy was back into the Top 10 markets thanks to a +14.3% scored in the first half. Spain is recovering as well and in the 2015 will be back above 1 million vehicles, after sixth years. Meantime improved three spots from 2014 and ranks as 13th market.
