Ireland car market rose 8% in May 2014. Ford jumps ahead.

Ireland car market rose 8% in May 2014 posting the fifth double digit consecutive increase. The car sales were pushed by renovated consumers’ confidence and more cash available for car loans after a long period of financial restrictions.

In May 2014 accordingly with data released by S.I.M.I. the Society of Irish Car Manufacturers, total new Car Passengers sold have been 6.468, up 8.5% from year ago. Year to date May sales have been 64.369, up 24.7% from year ago.  

The good news is represented by the increase reported by the Light Commercial Vehicles market in May was strong again with sales at 1.253 units, up 17.2% from year ago, posting the eleventh year on year increase in a row. Year to date May sales have been 8.875, up a robust 37.7% from last year showing the strong recovery momentum that not only the sector while the entire country is living this year.

In May the annual leader, Volkswagen, fell in third place overtaken by Ford and Toyota.

Ford retailed 1.008 cars with share at 13.4%, up 2.4 points from April. Year to date it was second with 8.338 sales and share at 11.4% up 2.5 points from last year. Fiesta boomed share and advanced in second place.

Toyota sold 889 cars with share at 11.8%, up 1.9 points from the previous month with cumulate sales at 7.637 and share at 10.5%, up 1.5 points from last year. Corolla was the best-selling model.

Volkswagen in third sold 874 units with 11.6% of share, down 0.7 points from April. Year to date it was market leader with 9.197 retails and 12.6% of share, up 1.5 points from year ago. Golf was third in May and first year to date.

Hyundai was fourth with 601 sales and 8.0% of share, up 0.7 points from the previous month. Year to date sales were 5.906 with 8.1% of share, up 1.3 points from last year.
