Ireland new cars market soared 30% in the first nine months 2015 thanks to a robust third quarter performance. Dacia Duster and Ford Mondeo jumped into the September podium.

Economic Environment

Ireland has remained largely unaffected by the economic malaise that is afflicting many of its European peers. Investment registered double-digit growth in the first half of 2015 thanks to strong investment by multinational companies.

Forward-looking indicators also reflect the strength of the Irish economy; both the service and manufacturing PMI have been in positive territory for 27 consecutive months. Consumption is picking up thanks to low commodity prices and higher employment. Moreover, consumers are soon expected to benefit from the first tax cuts since the 2008 financial crisis.

The 2016 government budget presented in mid-October includes EUR 1.5 billion in tax cuts and investment in capital spending projects, as well as increases in pensions and social welfare. A debate about the budget has taken center-stage in Irish politics as its impact on the economy will be a decisive factor in the general elections that must be held prior to 8 April 2016.

Market Outlok

The dreaming volume hit in the 2007 above 187.000 sales in a year was still over the double compared with the 2014 level that followed a strong recovery. However, the 2015 is reporting a wonderful increase with full year volumes projected near 125.000, the best since 2007.

Indeed, according to data released by S.I.M.I. the Society of Irish Car Manufacturers, the first half sales grew 25.7% but in the third quarter the market has further accelerated. In July sales ha been 27.593, up 47.5%, in August 6.408, up 31.7% and in September 4.775, up 22.5%.

During the first nine months of the year sales had been 121.309, up 30.2%.
