March 2014 consolidated Italian car market recovery. Fiat 500L in second place.

In March 2014, accordingly with data released by UNRAE, the Association of Italian Importers, total passenger cars sold in Italy have been 140.115 up 5.2% from last year posting the fourth year-on-year increase in a row. First quarter sales were 376.245, up 5.4% or 20k units from the previous year.

Fiat have sold 21k units with share at 20.7%, down 0.6 points from the previous month and ending the first quarter with share at 21.0% almost stable from full year 2013. The 500 L scored its best performance ever advancing in second place with 7k sales and 5.0% of share. With 11.6k retails, Volkswagen was flat from the previous month, with share at 8.3%. Golf and Polo were the best-selling models respectively in 7th and 8th place.

Ford sold 9.3k and was third with share at 6.6%, almost stable. Quarterly share at 6.5% was down 0.3 points from full year 2013.  Fiesta was stable in 9th while Focus fell in 26th place.

In fourth place, Renault defended its ranking from a resurging Opel, keeping a little advantage of 200 units. However both the brands posted a strong share respectively at 5.9% and 5.7%, improving a lot from the previous month. Renault kept the leadership among imported models, with Clio ranked in 6th.

Peugeot was 6th and stable above 5% of share while Toyota dropped back near 4% following the record share and ranking achieved in February. The launch of second generation Qashqai has finally broken a declining period for Nissan probably starting a new growing momentum. In March sales boomed at 5.6k with share at 4.0%, up 0.9 points, with Qashqai 10th best-selling model with 2.4% of share.

In 16th place Dacia has ended the best quarter ever in Italy, with share at 2.6%, up 0.5 points from last year, despite slower March. In 18th place, Suzuki posted a great monthly performance, surging at 1.5% of share, up 0.4 points from the previous month.
