Canada car industry: June 2012 up 3%. Ford confirmed momentum.

June was another positive month for the car market in Canada with 169.641 sales, up 2.9% from last year. Year to date sales through June at 865.914 units were up 7.23% from last year. Ford share at 17.6% remained on the top.

In June, the Canada car market was again positive and aligned with forecast. At the end of May, Canada was the 11th world's car market, continuing to reduce the gap with the 10th, Italy. At the end of June, only 15.000 units are between the two and it is easy to forecast that Canada will join the Top 10 global market by the end of August.

Focus2move.com holds the full year volume forecast at 1.65 million, up 8.4% from last year. For July, the forecast is 151.000 units, up 7% from last year.

After an outstanding May, with a share at 17.9, Ford confirmed in June its momentum, with 29.787 sales and 17.6% of market share. In second position, Toyota sold 16.957 vehicles with a share of 10.0%, down 0.2 points from previous month.

Chevrolet was third in June, with 14.090 sales and a share of 8.3%, up 0.2 points, surpassing Hyundai by 300 units. However, Hyundai holds the third position in the year to date ranking.

Canada's favorite luxury brand continued to be Mercedes, with June sales at 3.345 units, 57 more than BMW. In the first half, Mercedes was at 17.316 sales and BMW at 15.339.

Looking at best selling models, Ford F-Series dominated, as usual, with a share of 5.8%, down 0.4 points from May, followed by Dodge Ram with 4.1% and Dodge Grand Caravan, with 3.6%, up 0.8 points, able to surpass the Honda Civic. A part this, no other changes in the Top 10, identical in the month and in the year to date.

Behind, the Ford Edge was 14th in the month, growing in the YTD in the 21th position.
