Czech Republic car market down 8% in July 2012. Skoda at 30%.

Following a positive first half, closed with a market up 6%, July was negative for the Czech Republic car market, posting 11.158 sales, down 7.9% from last year. The year to date July sales were 105.391, up 5.0% from last year. Skoda share was stable at 30%.

The Czech Republic market is one of the more positive in Europe, driven by a still healthy economy and by the development of automotive sector, thanks to the Skoda growing performance in the world car market.

The July year-on-year negative performance had not changed the market perspective. Focus2move.com forecast a negative August, but a positive year end, with final 2012 volume projected at 177.000 units, up 2.5%, from last year, the new all-time record.

Skoda dominates the domestic market and in July sold 3.357 units with a market share of 30.1%, down 0.5 points of share from June. Behind, Hyundai struggled as never before this year, posting only 913 sales with a market share of 8.2%, down 2.1 from June, the worst share of the year.

Third was Volkswagen, with 951 units sold and a share of 8.5%, up 0.8 points from previous month and 0.2 from first half.

In 4th position, Renault posted a phenomenal July performance with 901 sales and a record share of 8.1%, up 2.2 point from first half. The opposite for Ford, dropped at 661 sales and a share of 5.9%, down 1.9 points from the first half.

Looking at the best models, Skoda kept five products in the Top 6. Octavia was the Leader with 14.534 sales year-to-date July and a share of 14.3%. The second was the Fabia, with 8.760 sales and 8.6% of share, followed by the Hyundai i30, produced in the Czech plant, with 2.872 sales and 2.8% of share.
