Japan: Car Market jumped 30% up in 2012. Toyota Aqua the best-selling model.

In December 2012, light passengers vehicles sales were 338.504, up 0.2% from last and were above analysts forecast. Full Year 2012 sales were 5.323.000, up 30.1%, the best year in the last five.

Looking at the best brands performance:

Toyota in 1st sold 94.142 units with a share of 27.8%, down 3.8 points of share from the previous month. During the 2012 Toyota sold 1.646.400 vehicles with a share of 30.7%. Toyota held 17 models in the top 40. The Aqua was again market leader followed by the Prius, 2nd this month.

Honda was 2nd, selling 44.798 units with a share of 13.2%, up 0.5 points of share from the previous month. In the last year Honda sold 745.205 vehicles with a share of 13.9%. Honda held 6 models in the top 50, with the NBox in 3rd position and the Fit in 9th.

Daihatsu was 3rd with 41.696 sales and a share of 12.3%, up 1.4 points of share from the previous month. In 2012 Daihatsu sold 677.171 vehicles with a share of 12.6%. The best-selling model was the Mira, 4th, while the Tanto was 6th.

Suzuki got down to the 4th position, selling 40.308 units with a share of 11.9%, down 0.9 points from the previous month. During the 2012 Suzuki sold 673.138 vehicles with a share of 12.5%. The best-selling model was the Wagon R in 5th position.

Nissan was 5th with 39.046 units and a share of 11.5%, down 0.3 points from the previous month. In 2012 Nissan sold 659.855 vehicles with a share of 12.3%. The top model was the Note stable in 7th position.

Subaru in 6th (7th year-to-date) sold 14.177 units with a share of 4.2%, up 0.4 points from the previous month. In the last year Subaru sold 177.722 units with a share of 3.3%. The best-selling model was the Impreza, 12ththis month.

Mazda was 7th (6th year-to-date), with 12.387 units and a share of 3.7%, stable from the previous month. During the last year Mazda sold 218.361 vehicles with a share of 4.1%. The top model was the Demio in 24th position.

Mitsubishi was 8th with 8.472 units and a share of 2.5%, down 0.1 points from the previous month. During the 2012 Mitsubishi sold 140.493 vehicles with a share of 2.6%. The best-selling model was the eK, 30th this month.

Mercedes climbed to the 9th position (13th year-to-date) selling 5.813 units with a share of 1.7%, up 0.9 points from the previous month. In 2012 Mercedes sold 41.911 vehicles with a share of 0.8%.

Volkswagen was 10th selling 5.572 units with a share of 1.6%, up 0.4 points from the previous month. During the 2012 Volkswagen sold 56.191 units with a share of 1.0%.

Looking at the Top models, the Aqua in 1sr sold 20.397 units with a share of 6.0%, down 0.7 points from the previous month. Sales in 2012 were 266.567 with a share of 5.0%.

The Prius was 2nd, selling 15.573 units with a share of 4.9%, down 0.7 points from November, followed by the Honda NBOX in 3rd with 13.646 units and a share of 4.0%, down 0.1 points from the previous month.

The Mira was 4th, selling 13.642 units, only 3 less than NBOX, and a share of 4.0%, up 0.3 points from November, followed by the Suzuki WagonR in 5th, with 12.424 units and a share of 3.7%, up 0.1 points from the previous month.

The Daihatsu Tanto was 6th, selling 9.944 units with a share of 2.9%, down 0.2 points from November, followed by the Note in 7th with 9.828 units and share of 2.9%, up 0.3 points from the previous month.

The Daihatsu Move in 8th (10th last month) with 9.346 units and a share of 2.8%, up 0.7 points from the previous month, followed by the Honda Fit in 9th with 8.380 units with a share of 2.5%, up 0.1 points from November, and by the Honda N ONE in 10th (8th last month) with 8.341 units and a share of 2.5%, up 0.1 points from the previous month.

Behind it was a good month for the Nissan March in 38th, up 15 spots from November, and for the Subaru Lucra in 49th, up 24 spots from the previous month.
