Kuwait automotive market in 2012 posted new all-time record sales.

With the 12.818 sales scored in December, the light passenger vehicles market in Kuwait ended the year with 152.563 sales, up an impressive 35.4% from the previous year and posting the third all-time record in a row.

Over 150.000 units represent an astonishing market volume for a country with only 2.7 million people. At this level the market advanced in the World’s 46th rank. However, 2013-2015 perspective is almost positive as the pro capita income is fast growing and the circulating park is still low.

Looking at the best brands performance:

Toyota dominated the market during the 2012, selling 43.091 units with a share of 28.2%, up 1.8 points of share from the previous year. Toyota rose in the second half, with a growth of 7.0 points of share between the second and the third quarter. The best five models in the ranking were Toyota, with the Prado market leader.

Nissan was 2nd, selling 16.369 units with a share of 10.7%, down 0.1 points from the previous year. Nissan began the 2012 with an outstanding performance, followed by a real collapse in the Q2. In the II Half Nissan recovered some points also if it was far from the results of Q1. The best-selling model was the D22 in 7th position.

Chevrolet in 3rd sold 11.590 units with a share of 7.6%, down 1.8 points of share from the previous year, and 0.4 from the last quarter of the year. The top model was the Tahoe in 6th position.

Hyundai was 4th (5th in December ranking) selling 10.792 units with a share of 7.1%, up 2.7 points of share from the previous year and stable from the Q4. The best-selling model was the Tucson in 12th position.

Kia in 5th sold 9.655 vehicles with a share of 6.3%, down 0.7 points of share from the previous year and 0.8 from the last quarter of 2012. The Cerato was 15th.

Mitsubishi was 6th, selling 7.863 units with a share of 5.2%, down 1.8 points of share from the previous year and 0.3 from the Q4 and 1.7 from the first quarter. The best-selling model was the Pajero in 9th position.

Ford was 7th, with 6.819 vehicles and a share of 4.5%, down 0.7 points from the previous year, and up 0.1 points from the Q4. The Expedition was 20th.

GMC was 8th selling 4.711 units with a share of 3.1%, down 1.4 points from the previous year and stable from the last quarter of 2012. The top model was the Sierra in 11th position.

Looking at the best models, the Toyota Prado was the market leader selling 12.694 with a share of 9.0% in 2012 and 9.2% in December.

The Hilux was 2nd selling 8.367 units with a share of 5.5%, followed by the Camry in 3rd with 5.365 sales and a share of 3.5%, and by the Land Cruiser in 4th with 4.302 sales and a share of 2.8%.

The Corolla was 5th selling 3.639 with a share of 2.4%, followed by the Chevrolet Tahoe in 6th with 3.279 sales and a share of 2.1%.

The Nissan D22 was 7th selling 3.211 with a share of 2.1%, followed by the Altima in 8th with 2.954 sales and a share of 1.9%.

The Mitsubishi Pajero was 9th selling 2.601 with a share of 1.7%, followed by the Patrol in 10th with 2.484 sales and a share of 1.6%.
