Stormy weather over the Malaysian Vehicle market.

Malaysian Vehicle market Proton Iriz

Stormy weather over the Malaysian Vehicle market and October was the fourth year on year losing month despite the launch of new Proton Iriz was expected to push up sales. Mercedes, Mazda and Ford are the winner.

In October 2014 according to data released by M.A.A., the Malaysian Automotive Associationthe new Light Passengers Vehicles sold in Malaysia have been 53.938, down 2.7% compared with the correspondent month last year.

Following a positive first half the market is declining since July and the year will close below the expectations of local observers. Indeed, year to date sales have been 544.427, only 2.500 more than in the correspondent period last year.

The market leader Perodua grew 7% in October with 17.683 retails partially recovering in the year to date figures where it is losing 3.2%.

The other domestic carmaker is not smiling. Indeed Proton sold 8.130 cars, losing 28.7% from last year, albeit the launch of the new city car Iriz (launched on September 26th). May be the production rump up is still low, because this performance is quite surprising.

Toyota was flat in third place selling 7.919 units with 14.7% of share while in fourth place Honda boomed 27.0% at 6.188 sales.

Other almost positive performances were scored by Mercedes (10th with 730 sales, +46.9%), Mazda (9th with 971 sales, +30.9%) and Ford (6th with 1.209 sales, +27.3%).

Looking at the report on Car Groups, the leader was Perodua with 32.8% of market share, ahead of Toyota with 16.1% and Proton with 15.1%.
