Mexico new cars market in October at best volume ever with over 119.000 sales, not only with the 18th year-on-year increase in series but also with the fifth best ever month record in a row. Figures are already above 1 million.

Economic Outlook

The National Statistics Institute (INEGI) released a first GDP estimate for Q3, which puts Mexico in line with other OECD countries. The preliminary data showed that the economy accelerated from a 2.2% increase in Q2 to a 2.4% expansion in Q3.

Moreover, recent data point to healthy economic dynamics at the beginning of Q4. Operating conditions in the manufacturing sector improved in October and, due to low unemployment, low inflation and better economic prospects, consumer confidence rose in the same month.

Vulnerabilities came from the external side of the economy in September, including a further deterioration in the trade deficit due to continued weakness in oil exports as well as a slowdown in remittances from Mexican workers abroad.

Market Outlook

Domestic market is hitting a single month record each month since June and in October again, with over 119.000, fixed the new best month ever for new vehicles in the market, resulting in a year to date score ahead of the previous record by a conspicuous numbers of sales.

Following the +20.0% performed in the first three-quarters of the year, in October, according to data released by the A.M.I.A., the Association of Mexican Automotive Industry, the total light vehicles sold had been 119.897 +18.8% from the correspondent period last year., with year to date figures at 1.065.954, +19.9%.

Competitive Arena

Nissan runs with the market speed (or vice versa…) and October registrations had been 32.330 (+20.4%)with market share at 27.0%.  Chevrolet kept the pace with 20.853 sales (+18.3%) while Volkswagen in third has sold 15.889 units, gaining only in single digit.

Behind Toyota with 7.820 (+29.3%), Ford with 6.881 (+4.2%), Honda with 6.631 (+21.6%), Mazda with 4.698 (+24.7%) and Dodge with 2.539 (+71.7%).

As far as the Group’s performance, the leader was Renault-Nissan with 28.9% of market share followed by General Motors with 18.3% and Volkswagen with 16.0%.

As far as the best-selling models, the Chevrolet Aveo was back on top with 6.685 units (+18.7%) followed by the Nissan Versa with 6.115 (+29.5%), the Volkswagen Jetta with 5.192 (+42.3%), the Nissan March with 4.856 (+32.8%) and the Volkswagen Vento with 4.341 (+18.2%).
