Paraguay car market up 6% at September2012. Isuzu fast growing.

In Paraguay the car market continue to rise in spite of last months reported deteriorated economic data. Indeed, GDP stagnated in the 2nd quarter 2012 over the previous quarter. Historically, from 2008 until 2012, Paraguay GDP growth rate averaged 0.94%, with an all-time high of 8.6% in March 2010 and a record low of -4.4% in March 2009.

However, thanks to the strong development of agricultural sector producing bio-fuel, the Paraguay recorded a Government Debt to GDP of 13.7% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product in 2011. The unemployment rate in Q2 2012 was reported at 8.3%, down 0.8 points from the previous quarter.

Looking at the top brands performance:

Hyundai was the leader (2ndyear-to-date) with 1.178 sales in the Q3 with a share of 15.6%, up 0.7 points of share from the Q2. Year-to-date September sales were 3.232 with a share of 14.3%, up 3.8 points from 2011. The best-selling models were the Tucson, the Accent and the i10, respectively 5th, 6th and 7th year-to-date.

Kia was 2nd with 913 sales in the third quarter with a share of 12.1%, down 10.8 points of share from the Q2. Year-to-date sales were 3.544 with a share of 15.7%, up 1.3 points from 2011. The Kia Rio was 4th year-to-date.

Toyota was 3rd, with 873 sales in the Q3 and a share of 11.6%, down 8.2 points from the Q2. Year-to-date sales were 2.918 with a share of 12.9%, down 3.4 points from 2011. Toyota held the best-selling model, the Hilux.

Isuzu in 4th (8th year-to-date) sold 780 units in the third quarter with a share of 10.4%, up 8.4 points from the Q2. Year-to-date sales were 1.044 with a share of 4.6%, up 0.9 points from 2011. The Isuzu Pick-up was 3rd YTD.

Volkswagen was 5th, with 616 units in the Q3 and a share of 8.2%, up 4.3 points from the Q2.Year-to-date sales were 1.555 with a share of 6.9%, down 1.0 points from 2011.

Nissan in 6th (4th year-to-date) sold 554 units in the third quarter with a share of 7.4%, down 0.6 points from the Q2. Year-to-dare sales were 1.948 with a share of 8.6%, up 0.8 points from 2011.

Looking at the best-selling models, we got only few data, regarding the top of the list.

The best-selling model in the third quarter was the Isuzu Pick-up that sold 803 units with a share of 10.7%, up 9.1 points from the first half.

Toyota Hilux was 2nd, with 663 units and a share of 8.8%, down 1.4 points of share from the first half followed by Hyundai i 10 that sold 559 units with a share of 7.4%

Nissan Frontier was 5th with 399 sales and a share of 5.3%, followed by the Kia Sportage with 356 units with 4.7% of share.
