One of the peculiarities of the Soviet automotive industry was the fact that these plants were designed as huge vertically integrated manufacturing units, where almost every component down to the screws were produced in-house. After the crash of the Soviet Union, the Russian automotive manufacturers continued to produce car models designed in the 1970s. Even today you can see a lot of them on Russian streets outside big cities. Predicted to over 4 million units by 2020, the current domestic market is struggling projecting the 2016 below the 1.5 million sales.
