Qatar car market: May 2012 up 71%. Toyota at 41% of share

Qatar car market momentum is carrying on toward a new all time record after the last, achieved in the 2011, at 62.346 units. This year the market is booming 40% and there are not signs for a deceleration. Focus2move.com forecast for the entire 2012 is for85.000 units sold, up 37% from last year. The market will further increase and in the 2015 it is foreseen at 140.000 units.

In the 2011, Toyota sales had been reduced as effect of natural disasters in Japan and Thailand and the 2012 is representing the year of recover for the Japanese. Toyota sold 13.153 units year to date May, with a share of 37.2%, up 6.8 points of share from last year. In May, the share was at 41.2%!

Nissan was the second, with 5.751 sales and 16.2% of share, down 3.7 points from last year. The third was Hyundai, with 2.617 units and 7.4% share, up 0.2 points from last year. Chevrolet was fourth with 1.456 units and 4.1% of share, ahead of GMC, with 1.164 sales and 3.3% of share, and Kia, with 1.046 sales and 3.0% of share. Lexus, in seventh position, is the luxury segment leader, with 1.024 sales and 2.9% of share. The first European brand was Mercedes, with 647 sales and 1.8% of share.

Looking at the best models, the Toyota Land Cruiser was the leader in the year to date ranking, selling 4.020 units, with a share of 11.4%, followed by the Toyota Hilux, with 3.391 units and 9.6%, The Hilux was market leader in May. The third was the Toyota Prado, with 1.831 sales and 5.2% of share, ahead at Nissan D22, with 1.267 sales and 3.6% of share.

The Lexus LX is performing well, ranking 7th from 14th last year. The first European model was the Mercedes S, in 22nd position, ahead of Porsche Cayenne, 25th and Volkswagen Jetta, 28th.
