Russia: June 2013 Car Market down in Double digit. Duma avoids discussing over tariff issue.

In June 2013, the Russia car market was at 241.346 sales, down 11.3%, third year-on-year decline. First half 2013 sales were 1.333.123, down 5.3%. The Russian parliament failed to complete the investigation on the law draft, proposing the inclusion of domestic manufacturers within the frame of the renewal tax, on time. This decision will move Russia and European Community in front of W.T.O. council for the tariff war started immediately after Russia joined WTO, last year.

Accordingly to Autostat data, second-hand car market declined 4.5% in the first five months of the year, posting 2.04 million vehicles. Lada brand vehicles were 34% of second-hand sales, while Toyota became the leader amongst foreign brands with a market 214.400 vehicles, followed by Nissan in third with 99.200 units.

Chinese car manufacturer Great Wall is planning to establish a factory in Primorski Region, Eastern Russia with an investment of US$ 350 million. The regional administration has stated that the factory, which will be established in the city of Ussuriysk, will have an annual production capacity of 150.000 automobiles. Great Wall has already started the construction of another factory in the city of Lipetsk, with a production capacity of 100.000 vehicles in partnership with the local company Irito.

Looking at the best brands performance:

Autovaz/Lada in 1st continued its decline, selling 37.177 vehicles with a share of 15.4%, down 1.2 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date June sales were 226.729 with a share of 17.0% Lada held 5 models in the top 25, with the Granta as market leader.

Renault was 2nd, selling 18.849 units with a share of 7.8%, down 0.3 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 104.634 with a share of 7.8%.Renault held 3 models in the top 25, with the Duster in 4th position.

Kia was 3rd selling 17.541 vehicles with a share of 7.3%, down 0.2 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 94.870 with a share of 7.1%. Kia held 3 models in the top 25, with the Rio in 3rd position.

Hyundai maintained its 4th position, selling 16.879 units with a share of 7.0%, stable from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 89.466 with a share of 6.7%. The best-selling model was the Solaris in 2nd position.

Volkswagen was 5th selling 16.067 units with a share of 6.7%, up 0.4 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 83.512 with a share of 6.3%. The top model was the Polo in 5th position.

Chevrolet was 6th, recovering position, up 1 spot from May, with 14.855 units and a share of 6.2%, up 0.8 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 80.200 with a share of 6.0%. The Cruze was 7th.

Toyota was 7th, selling 14.736 units with a share of 6.1%, up 0.1 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 73.056 with a share of 5.5%. The RAV4 was 12th.

Ford was 8th (9th year-to-date) selling 9.681 units with a share of 4.0%, stable from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 51.123 with a share of 3.8%. The best-selling model was the Focus in 6th position.

Skoda was 9th (10th year-to-date) selling 9.109 units with a share of 3.8%, up 0.5 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 42.847 with a share of 3.2%. The top model was the Octavia in 13th position.

Nissan fell to the 10th position (8th year-to-date) selling 9.056 units with a share of 3.8%, down 0.8 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 63.747 with a share of 4.8%. The Qashqai was 23rd.

Lada Granta was the market leader, with 17.005 units and a share of 7.0%, up 0.7 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 84.241 with a share of 6.3%.

Hyundai Solaris was 2nd with 10.575 units and a share of 4.4%, down 0.2 points from the previous month, followed by Kia Rio in 3rd with 8.047 sales and a share of 3.3%, down 0.2 points from May.

Renault Duster was 4th with 7.534 units and a share of 3.1%, stable from May, followed by Volkswagen Polo in 5th with 6.767 sales and a share of 2.8%, up 0.1 points from the previous month, and by Ford Focus in 6th with 5.944 sales and a share of 2.5%, down 0.1 points.

Chevrolet Cruze was 7th, up 5 spots from May, with 5.885 units and a share of 2.4%, up 0.6 points from the previous month, followed by Lada Largus in 8th with 5.034 sales and a share of 2.1%, down 0.2 points from May.
