Saudi Arabia: July car market grew 9%. Hyundai and Nissan shine.

In July, light passenger vehicles sales in Saudi Arabia were 68.870, up 9.9% and posting the 44th year-on year winning month. Year to date sales were 459.682, up 11.2% from 2012. The market is keeping the growing trend thanks to a positive economic environment and demand from first car buyers.

Remarkable the market share achieved by Chinese brands, entered only recently in the market, with a very aggressive pricing strategy. Overall, Geely looks the one in more competitive position, thanks to a range of products offering a 5 stars safety, powerful engines and very aggressive prices for acceptable product features.

Last month, two brands were winning: Hyundai soared above 20% of market share and Nissan, surprisingly a small player in KSA, but last month able to double share.

Looking at the top brands performance during the first part of 2013, with focus on June:

Toyota was fully benefited from good market shape, keeping the share between the huge level of 40%-37%. Last month sales were 25.853, with share declining a bit from first half at 37.5%. Year-to-date sales were 177.975 with a share of 38.7%, down 2.4 points from FY 2012. Four Toyota were in top ten ranking.

Hyundaiposted a great month selling 13.988 vehicles and moving share above 20%. Year-to-date sales were 87.943 with a share of 19.1%, up 1.8 points from FY 2012. Top model was the Elantra in 2nd. Mohamed Yousuf Nagh Motors, the dealership features in this report, is considered by Hyundai Motor Co. one of the best dealers worldwide and was rewarded with the “Hyundai Global Best Distributor of the Year 2011 Award”.

Ford advanced in third place, the best ranking in the entire Middle East zone, with 4.189 and a share of 6.1%, down 0.1 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 28.495 with a share of 6.2%, down 0.2 points from FY 2012. The top model Taurus was 21st.

Chevrolet was outpaced by Ford and slipped in 4th with 3.788 sales and a share flat at 5.5%. Year-to-date sales were 25.443 with a share of 5.5%, down 1.1 points from FY 2012. The majority of Chevrolet sales are concentrated in the Tahoe, ranked 8th.

Kia in 5th sold 3.630 cars with 5.3% of share, down 0.2 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 24.942 with a share of 5.4%, down 0.7 points from FY 2012. The bestselling model was the Rio ranked 19th.

Isuzu was 6th selling 3.125 vehicles with a share of 4.5%, down 0.1 points from the previous. Year-to-date sales were 21.060 with a share of 4.6%, up 0.3 points from FY 2012.

GMC was 7th selling 2.320 vehicles with a share of 3.4%, up 0.2 points. Year-to-date sales were 14.670 with a share of 3.2%, down 0.7 points from FY 2012.

Honda was 8th selling 1.921 vehicles with a share of 2.8%, up 0.3 points. Year-to-date sales were 11.693 with a share of 2.5%, up 0.4 points from FY 2012.

Toyota Corolla was back market leader with 6.877 sales and 10.0% of share, up 3.3 points from the previous month. Year to date sales were 34.430 with a share of 7.0%, flat from last year.

Hyundai Elantra advanced in second with 4.531 sales and a share of 6.6%, up 0.5 points. Year to date it was third with 29.493 sales and 6.3% of share, up 2.0 points from last year.

Toyota Hilux slipped in third with 3.572 sales and 5.2% of share, down 1.8 points from the previous month. Year to date it was second with 32.340 sales and 7.3% of share, down 2.1 points from FY 2012.

Toyota Camry was fourth with 3.454 sales and5.0% of share, up 0.9 points, followed in 5th by Hyundai Accent with 2.922 sales and 4.2% of share. Ford Expedition was 6th, up 5 spots, with 2.257 sales and 3.3% of share, up 1.2 points, followed by Honda Accord, advanced in 7th from 13th with 1.870 sales and 2.7% of share.

Chevrolet Tahoe was 8th, up 1 spot, with 1.808 sales and 2.6% of share, ahead of Toyota Fortuner, 9th with 1.642 sales and Isuzu D-Max, 10th with 1.516 sales.
