Serbian Car Market shocked by Fiat debacle with first half market share fell over 25% while the country is becoming a new feud of Volkswagen Group despite the aggressive performance of the renovated Renault and Toyota teams.

In June 2014 according to data released by the local Association of Car Manufacturers, total new Light Passengers Vehicles sold in Serbia have been 2.037, down 6.7% from year ago.

During the first half of 2014 sales have been 10.646, down 6.4% from year ago with full year volume projection below the 22.000 units, the weakest in the last since 2003.

Preliminary data (not yet detailed for all brands and models) on July and August confirm the negative trend as market was down again respectively 7.5% and 18.5% with 1.844 sales in July and 1.331 in August. Now the negative y.o.y. row covers seventh month.

The market is progressively becoming a feud of Volkswagen Group with Skoda and Volkswagen leading the June ranking (VW is third in the first half) with the only domestic producer, Fiat, that is losing terrain month after month.

In June Fiat market share at 11.8% was probably the worst ever (considering the Zastava data and history) and sales at 240 units were 55% less than the correspondent month last year. A real debacle!

New – for this market – brands are emerging, with Renault that more than doubled June sales volume and Toyota growing 191%.
