South Africa: Car Market up 2% in 2013. Ford and Toyota Etios awarded as Best of the Year.

Accordingly with data released by NAAMSA, the South African Automotive Manufacturers Association, South African light passenger’s vehicles market figures in December 2013 was of 44.154 units, flat from last year. Full Year sales were 616.399, up 2.7% from last year.

Sharing general evaluation on Brands & Models performance, based not only on volume but also on results compared with potential, focus2move Team quoted the Best of the Year 2013, as Brand and Model. This was the result:

Brand of Year was Ford advanced in third place with 9.6% of share, up 2.6 points from 2012. Second was Honda ranked in 10th with share at 2.1%, up 0.5 points from 2012. Third was Great Wall landed in 19th with share at 0.6%.

Model of Year was the Toyota Etios in 3rd place with 3.9% of share, up 1.3 points from 2012. Second was Ford Ranger in 4th with 3.2% of share, up 0.5 points from last year. Third was Mercedes C Class in 12th place with share at 1.9%, up 0.3 from year ago.

Looking at top brands performance in the last month:

Toyota in first sold 9.437 vehicles with share at 21.4%, down 2.4 points from November In the year, Toyota’s sales have been 121.815 with share at 19.8%, down 0.8 points from 2012. The best-selling model was the Hilux in second, while Etios ranked third, Corolla 8th and Quantum 10th.

Volkswagen in second sold 6.744 units with a share of 15.3%, up 2.5 points of share from the previous month. Full Year sales were 91.442 with a share of 14.9%, down 0.1 points from 2012. Polo kept leadership among models while Golf was 16th, Amarok 23th and Jetta 26th.

Ford in third sold 5.739 units with share soared at 13.0%, up 2.0 points from November. Full Year sales have been 59.033 with a share of 9.6%, posting a robust 2.6 points increase from last year. Top models were Ranger and Figo respectively 4th and 7th while Fiesta was 14th and Focus 20th.

Chevrolet was fourth selling 2.387 units with a share of 5.4%, down 1.0 points from November. In the 2013, Chevrolet sales were 40.918 with a share of 6.7%, down 1.7 points from 2012.. The best-selling model was the LCV Utility in 5th place. First car was the Spark in 17th with Cruze in 22nd.

Nissan was fifth selling 2.246 vehicles with share at 5.1%, down 0.4 points from November. Full Year sales were 46.956 with a share of 7.6%, down 1.5 points from 2012. The top model was the commercial vehicle NP200 ranked 6th.

Mercedes was sixth with 2.190 sales and 5.0% of share, up 0.7 points from the previous month. In the 2013 Mercedes was seventh with 23.897 sales and 3.9% of share, down 0.6 points from last year. The top model C Class was in 12th while E Class ranked 59th.

Audi advanced in 7th with 1.323 sales and 3.0% of share, down 0.1 points from November. Full Year Audi was 8th with 19.336 units and 3.1% of share, up 0.2 points from last year. A4 was the top model in 18th while the A3 was 34th.
