Switzerland: June 2013 Car Market collapsed. BMW in second place.

In June 2013 car passenger’s sales were 29.805, down 25.3%, the 10th year-on-year consecutive loss. Cumulate sales were 157.205, down 11.3% from last year.

Looking at the top brands performance:

Volkswagen in 1st sold 3.744 units with a share of 12.6% down 1.3 points of share from the previous month. First half sales were 19.565 with a share of 12.4%. Volkswagen held 5 models in the top 9, with the Golf as market leader.

BMW was again 2nd with 20.16 units and seriously challenging Audi, which was second in the year-to-date ranking. June sales were 2.016 with a share of 6.8%, down 0.1 points of share from the previous month. First half sales were 10.197 with a share of 6.5%. BMW held 5 models in the top 32, with the Series 3 stable in 3rd position.

Ford advanced in 3rd, just few units ahead of Audi, with 1.788 sales and a share of 6.0%, up 0.8 points from the previous month. First sales it was 6th with 7.780 sales and 4.9% of share. Ford is progressively recovering after a really awful performance posted in first quarter 2013. The best-selling model was Fiesta in 6th position.

Audi slipped in 4th place (2nd year-to-date) selling 1.782 units with a share of 6.0%, down 0.6 points of share from the previous month. First half sales were 10.391 with a share of 6.6%. Last month, Audi didn’t place any model in top ten, with Audi A3 only 15rth.

A Group of 4 brands were very close between the 5th and the 8th place: Opel with 1.594 units, Skoda with 1.585, Mercedes with 1.567 and Renault with 1.511.

Volkswagen Golf was as usually market leader with 1.066 units and a share of 3.6%, down 0.9 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 6.077 with a share of 3.9%.

Skoda Octavia recovered the 2nd place with 800 units and a share of 2.7%, up 0.9 points from the previous month, followed by BMW 3 Series in 3rd with 616 sales and a share of 2.1%, flat from May.

Volkswagen Polo was 4th with 500 units and a share of 1.7%, down 0.1 points from the previous month, followed by Peugeot 208 in 5th with 463 sales and a share of 1.6%, up 0.2 points from the previous month, and by Ford Fiesta in 6th, up 7 spots, with 461 sales and a share of 1.5%, up 0.3 points from May.
