Taiwan Car Market in 2013 at 400.000 units.

The light passenger vehicles market posted 28.276 sales, up 27.8% with the year-to-date sales volume at 330.913 units, down 2.5% from last year, when the market hit the all-time record with 374.770 units. Local economists consider the domestic Taiwanese car market mature. We have a different view and project 2013 volume above 400.000 units,

However, the Taiwanese car market confirmed it position among global markets and was ranked 27th at the end of 2012.

Looking at the top brands performance:

Toyota ended the year slightly below 30% of share, however confirming the supremacy over the market. Sales were 10.107 with a share of 29.3%, down 2.0 points from the previous month. Full Year sales were 113.451 with a share of 31.0%. One third of Toyota sales derive by Corolla, strong market leader with a share around 10%.

Mitsubishi was 2nd with 3.627 sales and a share of 10.5%, down 1.3 points from the previous month. Full Year sales were 48.405 with share at 13.2%. The top model of the 2012 was the Veryca in 7th place, while the Canter was 10th in December with a strong performance.

Nissan was 3rd selling 2.985 units with a share of 8.7%, down 1.8 points from the previous month. Full Year sales were 43.023 with share at 11.8%. The top model was the Tiida, third in the year and 7th in the month.

Honda was 4th with 2.985 sales and a share of 6.7%, down 1.1 points from the previous month, which was particularly positive. Full Year sales were 20.179 with a share of 5.5%. The top model was the CRV, market leader among SUV, 4th last month and 10th in the year.

Ford in 5th sold 2.107 units with a share of 6.1%, up 0.3 from the previous month. Full Year sales were 18.133 with a share of 5.0%, down 0.7 points from 2011. The top model was the Focus 10th in the last month and 18th in the year.

Hyundai was 6th with 1.232 units with a share of 3.6%, down 0.9 points from the previous month. Full Year sales were 15.801 with a share of 4.3%.The best-selling model was the Elantra, 15th in the year and in the last month.

Mercedes was 7th and leader of the luxury segment selling 1.326 vehicles with a share of 3.8%, flat from November. Full Year sales were 13.134 with a share of 3.6%. Mercedes performance was quite stable along the year.

Mazda was 8th, outpaced by Mercedes, with 973 sales and a share of 2.8%, down 0.9 points from the previous month. Full Year sales were 12.496 with a share of 3.4%.

Looking at the Top models, Toyota Corolla sold 3.589 units with a share of 10.4%. Full Year sales were 36.342 with a share of 9.9%.

Toyota Yaris was second with 1.642 units and a share of 4.8%, posting a great performance. In full year it was 6th.

Third Toyota on the podium was the Wish, with 1.348 sales and 3.9% of share. Full Year it was 4th with 14.382 sales.

Fourth was the Honda CRV, leader among SUV, followed by others two Toyota, the Camry in 5th (but 2nd in the year) and the Vios in 6th.

Behind, remarkable performances were posted in the last month by Honda Civic in 11th from 16th, by Mitsubishi Colt in 17th from 29th and by Golf in 23rd from 38th.
