Turkey Car Market rose 16% in April 2013. Renault at 15% of share.

April sales for the Turkey light passenger vehicles market were 73.575, up 16.9% with first quarter sales at 226.179, up 13.8%. The car passenger sales were 56.999 up 9.0. Year-to-date sales were 171.435, up 19.7% while the LCV sales were 54.746, down 1.4%

While low interest rate impacted positively on car segment, the still slow growth rate of Turkish economy continued to have a negative impact on the commercial vehicles market. The recovery of consumer confidence index also continued in April and the projections for the Turkish economy and the consumption followed a positive trend and the whole year is projected at 800.000 units.

The market is dominated by “small cars”, which benefit of a lower tax ratio. Indeed, looking at the segment distribution of the passenger car market in January-April 2013, those with low tax rates in Segments A, B and C comprised 85.8%. The C segment got the highest number of sales with a share of 50,3% (86.244 units), and the Sedan passenger cars were the most preferred ones with 43,9% and 75.170 units.

Looking at the best brands performance:

Renault in 1st improved the performance compared with March, selling 8.568 vehicles with a share of 15.0%, up 0.8 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date April sales were 26.079 with a share of 15.2%. Renault held 6 models in the top 50, with the Fluence in 3rd position.

Volkswagen was 2nd, selling 7.852 units with a share of 13.8%, down 0.3 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 24.677 with a share of 14.4%. Volkswagen held 7 models in the top 50, with the Polo in 5th position.

Ford jumped to the 3rd position (5th year-to-date) with a robust month, selling 5.064 units with a share of 8.9%, up 1.8 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 12.865 with a share of 7.5%. The Fiesta was 7th.

Opel was 4th (3rd year-to-date) selling 4.661 units with a share of 8.2%, down 1.7 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 14.068 with a share of 8.2%. The best-selling model was the Astra in 2nd position.

Fiat was 5th, selling 4.650 vehicles, only 11 units less than Opel, with a share of 8.2%, up 0.7 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 12.795 with a share of 7.5%. The top model was the Linea in 1st position.

Hyundai fell to the 6th position (4th year-to-date) selling 4.164 units with a share of 7.3%, down 0.3 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 12.933 with a share of 7.5%. The Accent Blue was 19th.

Toyota was 7th (8th year-to-date) selling 2.554 units with a share of 4.5%, stable from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 7.333 with a share of 4.3%. The best-selling model was the Corolla in 16th position.

Dacia was 8th, selling 2.466 units with a share of 4.3%, up 0.1 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date April sales were 7.821 with a share of 4.6%. The top model was the Duster in 15th position.

Looking at the top models, the Fiat Linea was the market leader, selling 3.590 units with a share of 6.3%, up 0.1 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 9.651 with a share of 5.6%-

The Astra was 2nd, selling 2.901 units with a share of 5.1%, down 0.8 points from the previous month, followed by the Fluence in 3rd, up 11 spots from March, with2.766 sales and a share of 4.9%, up 2.8 points from the previous month.

The Symbol was 4th, losing 3 spots from March, with 2.600 units and a share of 4.6%, down 2.0 points from the previous month, followed by the Polo in 5th with 2.349 sales and share of 4.1%, up 0.4 points from March, and by the Clio in 6th with 2.229 sales and a share of 3.9%, down 0.1 points from the previous month.

The Fiesta was 7th selling 2.162 units with a share of 3.8%, up 1.1 points from the previous month, followed by the Focus Sedan in 8th, up 3 spots from March, with 1.823 sales and a share of 3.2%, up 0.9 points from the previous month.

The Golf was 9th selling 1.719 units with a share of 3.0%, down 0.4 points from the previous month, followed by the Corsa in 10th with 1.517 sales and a share of 2.7%, down 0.8 points from March.
