Paraguay 2013. Light vehicles sales up 2.4% with Kia on top

In 2013 the Paraguay car market fell 2.4% from the previous year thanks to a phenomenal recovery in the second half that has offset a really bad start. This market ranked 74th world-wide with a positive outlook for the next decade.

Following a roaring trend posted in 2010 and 2011 in the last two years sales were marginally down. Accordingly with data released by CADAM, the Cámara de Distribuidores de Automotores y Maquinarias, total new Light Passengers Vehicles sold last year in Paraguay have been 28.190, down 2.4% from year ago.

This market is dominated by cars imported by Korea and Kia confirmed in 2013 the leadership with 5.060 sales and 17.9% of market share, up 2.1 points from the previous year.

The Japanese Toyota scored its best performance ever in this market and advanced in second place with 4.040 sales with share of 14.3%, up 0.8 points of share from 2012.

Hyundai slipped in third despite gaining share. It sold 4.022 units with 14.3% of share, up 0.6 points from the previous year.

Chevrolet was fourth selling 2.450 with share at 8.7%, up 1.8 points from last year, followed by Volkswagen with 2.160 and Fiat with 1.159.

Looking at the best-selling models, Toyota Hilux was the new leader with 3.000 sales and 10.6% of share, followed by Kia Rio and Picanto respectively with 1.835 and 1.570 sales.
