2014 Indonesian Car Market is the Top Asean Market, albeit slightly slow increase from the previous year. Indeed the huge collapse of Thailand’s market moved Indonesia on top of Asean markets after three year.

In March, accordingly with data released by Gaikindo, the Indonesian Association of Automotive Manufacturers, total light passengers sold have been 99.258, down 6.6% from year ago. The first quarter total sales have been 293.687, up 2.3% from year ago.

During the first quarter car sold in Thailand has been 221.727, losing 46% from year ago, while sales in the third Asean market, Malaysia, have been 158.933. So the Indonesian market leadership is sharp and will be kept for a while. Indonesia was the World’s 13th market in this quarter.

Toyota in March sold 27.595 vehicles with share at 28.3%. In the quarter sales were 85.777 with share at 29.4%, down 6.0 points from full year 2013.

Daihatsu has taken three of these points lost by Toyota, selling in the quarter 51.448 units with share at 17.6%, up2.9 points.

Honda in third gained in the quarter 4.3 points selling 14.529 units in March and 36.079 in the quarter. Suzuki was fourth in March and third in the quarter respectively with 14.013 and 42.281 retails, with a little share improvement from last year.

Mitsubishi was fifth in March with 13.668 sales and 14.0% of share. These Top 5 Brands in the first quarter have taken the 88% of market share. Adding the next two brands, Nissan and Isuzu, it is reached the 95% of the market, that represents one of highest concentration in the World. There is no space for not Japanese brands here.
