Thailand best selling cars 2017 was dominated by the last generation of the locally made Isuzu D-Max, able to create a wide gap over the former leader, the Toyota Hilux. Third place taken by the other pick-up, the Ford Ranger.
Thailand vehicles market, crucial for the country and producing over 1 million vehicles per year, started the 2017 coming out from a really harsh period. Indeed a “crazy” government incentive run in the 2012 had generated a big bubble of sales with doubling 2012 sales at the record volume of 1.43 million followed by a fall to a minimum of 768.000 units in the 2016, more or less the same level of the 2011. A recovery started just in the 2017, positively impacted by the possibility, after 5 years of ownership, to re-sell vehicles purchased during the “first car buyers” 2012 incentive campaign. Indeed according to data released by the Thai Automotive Industry Association the 2017 total vehicles sales have been 871.644 (+13.4%).
A protagonist of this recovery has been, without doubts the last generation of the Isuzu D-Max, able not only to jump on top of the best-selling cars ranking, but also to slash a huge gap over the traditional market leader, the Toyota Hilux.
The Isuzu D-Max, produced in Thailand, is a master of all trades and the perfect blend of rugged capability whether off-road or load-lugging; paired with performance and comfort. Sales in 2017 had been 133.794 (+11.5%).
Toyota Hilux sales had been 109.988 (-8.710.1%) while the third place was taken by the Ford Ranger with 44.533 (+44.3%).
In fourth place the Honda City with 34.955 units (+32.1%) ahead of the Mitsubishi Triton with 32.450 (+37.6%), the Mazda2 with 31.760 sales (+36.8%) and the Toyota Yaris with 30.493 units (-16.9%), not including the recent model launched.
In eight place the Honda Civic with 27.448 (+22.6%) followed by the Toyota Fortuner with 23.470 (-16.3%) and in 10th place the Honda Jazz with 23.360 units (+11.7%).
