Austria Vehicles Market in 2015 ranked as World’s 29th a great place for the small alpine country. It is one of the more stable in the World while LCVs segment hit last 15 years best.
Economic Outlook
Austria’s economy grew at a stable pace in Q3 as rising public spending and investment made up for a weaker performance of the external sector and it likely continued on a robust, albeit slow, track in Q4.
While the manufacturing PMI remained in expansion mode in November, consumer confidence deteriorated notably for the second month in a row.
The IMF’s latest Article IV consultation highlighted three key priorities to be addressed: implementing structural reforms that at the same time lift growth and strengthen fiscal accounts, continuing efforts to rapidly integrate refugees and taking additional measures to stabilize the banking sector.
Particularly, the international body recommended public sector spending cuts and reforms in the areas of healthcare, education and pensions in order to improve the efficiency of state spending.
Market Outlook
According to data released by Automotive.at, the agency of the local Association of Car Manufacturers, the fourth quarter of the 2015 was almost positive for new cars sales with volume increased 10% from the correspondent period last year. Consequently the entire year ended up a little 1.7% with 308.555 sales.
The Austrian market is one of the most stable in Europe and in the World with last ten years sales fluctuated between the 290.000 and 330.000 sales.
The light commercial vehicles sold in the year were 35.168, up 5.3%, the best performance in the last 15 years. Combined, the two segments sum 343.273 sales, that in the 2015 gave to the Austria automotive sector the World’s 29th place (up 1 spot). No bad for the little alpine country!
Competitive Arena
The market is of course dominated by German brands while traditionally there are few little brands performing very well: Skoda, Seat and Mazda overall.
In the 2015 the market leader Volkswagen sold more than the double of the second with 53.396 sales (-2.5%) and 17.3% of market share. Second was Opel with 21.870 units (+3.3%) ahead of Skoda with 21.021 (+1.8%), Hyundai with 20.969 (+5.7%), Ford with 17.274 (-8.3%), Audi with 17.131 (-6.4%), BMW with 16.582 (+5.2%) and Renault with 16.442 (+5.5%).
As far as the Car Groups performance, the leader was Volkswagen Group with 34.4% of market share, ahead of Renault-Nissan with 10.0%, Hyundai Kia with 9.6%, and General Motors with 7.1%.
As far as Best-selling models performance, the Volkswagen Golf dominated inexorably the competition with 17.724 sales (-6.5%) followed by the Skoda Octavia with 8.071 (+1.7%), the Volkswagen Polo with 7.755 (-11%), the Skoda Fabia with 6.696 (+26.0%) and the Volkswagen Tiguan with 6.296 (-7.65%).
