Ukraine Vehicles Sales 2016 finally bottomed up starting a recovery after years of collapse. The market is now at almost one tenth of the record level hit just 8 years ago. Toyota is market leader.
Market Outlook
Ukraine’s recovery picked up steam in Q3 2016, as GDP grew at the fastest pace in almost three years. Data for the fourth quarter suggest that the economy continued on a modest recovery path with industrial production expanded at the fastest pace in eight months in November.
The government’s cooperation with the IMF bodes well for Ukraine’s outlook and the economy is expected to continue on an upward trajectory. The FocusEconomics panel sees GDP rising by 2.4% this year.
Following three consecutive years of double-digit decline, the domestic vehicles market in 2016 bottomed down started a slow recovery. Indeed the market is now almost one tenth of the 2008 record and the way to recover is really hard.
According to data released by the Ukrautoprom, the Ukrainian Associations of Car Manufacturers, the vehicles passengers sold in full year had been 66.346 units (+25.6%).
Competitive Arena
The leader was Toyota with 7.668 units (+56.4%) ahead of the Renault with 6.389 (+51.6%) and Volkswagen with 5.001 (+117.5%). Geely was the best performer of the year, while among the sharpest increase were reported by MG, Jaguar, Opel, Seat, Lexus and Mercedes.
Ssangyong posted the sharpest slowdown losing 73.8% followed by Chery, Jac, Chevrolet, Honda, Infiniti, Zaz and Fiat.
The best-selling model for the first time was the Kia Sportage with 2.736 sales (+195.1%), beating the previous leader the Renault Logan, which ranked 2nd with 2.079 (+26.8%). The Renault Duster was third with 2.032 units (+119.2%).
