Latin America best-selling cars ranking in 2020 sees again the Chevrolet Onix on top while the Toyota Hilux regained the 2nd position ahead of the Ford Ka and the Volkswagen Gol. The Renault Kwid falls at the edge of the leaderboard.
As far as the best-selling cars ranking, while our report assembles data for 41 countries, this ranking is heavily conditioned by the trend in the top markets (Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina), which counts nearly as half of the regional sales.
In 2020, the market sees the Chevrolet Onix on top of the ranking for the fifth year in a row with 195.176 sales (4.7% share).
The Chevrolet Onix is sold only in this region and in 2017 ranked as 79th in the focus2move Global Best Selling Cars Ranking. It is a subcompact car launched in 2012 to succeed Chevrolet Corsa and some versions of Chevrolet Celta. Made in a Brazilian plan at Gravataí, it is only available with a five-door hatchback, two flex-fuel engines (999 cm³ and 78/80 cv, 1,389 cm³, and 98/106 cv), five-speed manual transmission, front-wheel drive. The sedan derivative is sold under the name Prisma and distributed in selected markets.
The Toyota Hilux returned in 2nd place after being overtaken the previous months, selling 104.156 units (2.5% share) followed by the Ford Ka with 102.803 (2.5% share) while the Volkswagen Gol reached 4th place, with 100.577 sales (2.4% share).
Indeed, the Ford Ka remains on the market podium. The third generation of this city car, produced in Brazil, is available as a five-door hatchback and as a four-door sedan. Launched in the fall of 2014, it was initially only available in Brazil and South America, later being introduced in India, Mexico, South Africa (where it is marketed as the Ford Figo), and in Europe (marketed as Ford Ka+).
Behind, we find the Nissan Versa -down 1 spot- with 95.525 (2.3% share), followed by the Hyundai HB20 –up 1 spot- with 87.877 (2.1% share) and the Fiat Strada -up 9 spots- with 84.647 sales (2% share).
The Chevrolet Onix Plus ended up in 8th position with 83.400 sales (2% share) ahead of the Volkswagen T-Cross -up 27 spots- with 76.276 sales (1.8% share) and the Renault Kwid -down 4 spots- with 75.133 units (1.8% share).
