Hungarian Auto market in 2021 falls 5.1% with 121,545 sales, reporting a positive performance only in Q2. Kia reports the best performance this year, gaining 45%, while Dacia drops in 6th place.

The Hungarian car market was unable to grow effectively and recover from the pandemic crash of 2020, and reported a positive performance only in Q2.
The market was heavily hit by the 2008 crisis losing 75% of volumes. However, the light vehicles market doubled sales from 63,931 in 2012 to 136,208 in 2017, albeit light commercial vehicles declined for the end of a fiscal stimulus introduced the year before.
In 2018 the market kept the impressive run, with another astonishing 17.4% year-on-year improvement, while in 2019, marked the 6th consecutive annual double-digit growth. Indeed, the Full-year ended at 157,891, up 15.6% from the previous year.
In 2020 sales have been 128,012, reporting a decline of 18.9% compared to 2019 due to the pandemic crash.
In 2021 the year started negatively for the Hungarian market, in fact, in Q1 30,189 units have been sold, reporting a 7.6% decrease in sales compared to Q1 2020 but started growing again, reporting a 31.2% increase in sales with 30,162 units due to the incredibly low volumes in Q2 2020.
In Q3 sales started falling again in double-digits, losing 11.5% sales with 30,466 units, and remained down 19% in Q4 with 30,728 sales.
Indeed, Full-Year sales for 2021 have been 121,545, reporting a 5.1% decrease compared to 2020.
Brand-wise, this year the leader Suzuki (+19.4%) gained 3% market share, followed by Toyota (-4%), which gained 0.1% share. Ford on the other hand lost 0.4% share, falling 9.7%. Kia reached 4th place (+45%), followed by Skoda which lost 23%.
Dacia fell in 6th position and lost 29.6% by reporting the worst performance on the leaderboard, followed by Volkswagen which dropped 27%, and Fiat which lost 4.7% sales. Closing the leaderboard we have Mercedes -down 2 spots- gaining 19.7% this year and Hyundai -up 2 spots- gaining 21.5%.
The most sold vehicle this year has been the Suzuki Vitara (+21.3%) with 8,350 units sold, followed by the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross, which gained 12.2% registering 8,350 new sales this year. The Fiat 500 (+7%) closes the podium and reports 4,728 new units sold.
