Finland’s car market in 2021 rises by 1.6% with 95,811 sales, reporting a positive performance only in Q2. Ford reported the worst performance, falling 12.8%, while Kia reaches 4th place.

The Finnish car market this year attempted to recover from the pandemic crash of 2020 and after remaining flat in Q1 reported a positive performance only in Q2 due to the extremely low levels of the previous year.
The market has not yet recovered from the pre-2008 crisis level. Since 2013 the market registered a shy but stable recovery, reaching a peak of 120,066 sales in 2018, thanks to the introduction of a scrap incentive scheme of up to €2,500. However, ended the incentives, in 2019 the market dropped down to the level of 114,169 units (-4.9%).
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic sales have plummeted in 2020. In fact, sales have been 96,403, reporting a decline of 15.6% compared to 2019.
In 2021 the year started slightly negatively for the Finnish market, in fact, in Q1 27,416 units have been sold, reporting a 1.4% decrease in sales compared to Q1 2020, while in Q2 sales started growing again, reporting a 50.5% increase in sales with 27,727 units sold due to the low levels reported in Q2 2020.
In Q3 sales start falling in double-digits, dropping 16.7% with 21,169 units, while in Q4 sales fell 14.1% with 19,499 units.
Indeed, Full-Year sales for 2021 have been 95,811, reporting a 1.6% increase compared to 2020.
Brand-wise, this year the leader Toyota (+8%) gained 0.9% market share, followed by Volkswagen (+1.4%), which did not gain market share. Skoda lost 1.3% share, falling 11.8%. Kia reached 4th place and gained 16.9%, overtaking Volvo which gained only 1.3%.
Mercedes -up 1 spot- lost 4.5%, followed by Ford (-12.8%) which reported the worst performance, and BMW which gained 10.7%. Closing the leaderboard we have Audi rising 9% this year and Hyundai -up 2 spots- which rose 13.8%.
The most sold vehicle this year has been the Toyota Corolla (-1.4%) with 5,319 units sold, followed by the Toyota Yaris, which gained 9.1% registering 3,704 new sales this year. The Skoda Octavia (-5.7%) closes the podium and reports 3,675 new units sold.
