World Best Selling Car Ranking in 2023 reports a new leader, first time in the last 20 years. Toyota Corolla was overtaken by the Tesla Model Y signing a mark from the past to the future.

In this unique report, we rank the best-selling cars and light commercial in the World, aggregating data for all the 162 countries we track on monthly basis. Data reported is updated with the last available registrations figures sourced by local official authorities, country by country

Despite it being very hard to replace the traditional diesel and petrol models from the very top of our Top 100 Ranking, new EV models are ramping up across the global leaderboard with the automotive industry moving more and more towards electrification. 

However, the Best selling cars ranking worldwide for 2023, reports a significant step ahead, with Toyota Corolla losing the leadership, first time in this century, due to the success of an electric vehicles.

Indeed, new market leader was the Tesla Model Y -up 3 spots- with 1.15 million units sold (+50.8%).

The Toyota Corolla was second with 1.13 million sales (-1.1%) breaking a very long winning series.

In third place another SUV and again a Toyota, the Toyota RAV4 -dowon 1 spot –  with 934.910 sales (+5.9%).

In fourth place the best pick-up in the rankings, the Ford F-Series, with 901.569 sales (+13.4%) followed by the Honda CR-V -up 2 spots- with 718.422 sales (+18.0%), the Chevrolet Silverado with 640.995  (+6.6%) and the Toyota Camry -down 2 spots- with 631.580 (-6.3%.

In eight place the Hyundai Tucson -up 1 spot- with 628.036 new registrations (+11.9%) ahead of the Toyota Hilux with 572.483 (-7.6%) and the Ram pick-up -down 1 spot- with 520.578 sales (-4.6%).

The most remarkable performances for the other models within the Top 50 are mostly related to electric vehicles like the BYD Dolphin in 30th (+54.7 %)and the BYD Yuan Plus in 32nd (+86.0%).
