Argentina car market ignores financial environment surging 18% in July ’13. Is it the last dance?

July was the fourth consecutive growing month for the car passengers market with 83.750 sales a robust increase, 18.8% from July 2012. Cumulated sales were 557.436 units, up 9.2%.

However, now the economic situation risks to heavily impact all consumers good sector with the automotive as one of the first. The risk is not simply represented by a potential decline, but in case of final financial default the country will live again the nightmare already lived more than ten years ago and the car market to collapse in a couple of months.

Today the probabilities of this awful scenario rose at 50%.

Looking at the best brands performance:

Renault jumped to the 1st position (3rd year-to-date) selling 13.956 vehicles with a share of 16.7%, up 1.9 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date July sales were 80.310 with a share of 14.4%. Renault held 6 models in the top 50, with the new Clio, locally called “Mio” in 3rd position.

Volkswagen was 2nd (1st year-to-date) selling 13.788 units with a share of 16.5%, down 0.6 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 97.494 with a share of 17.5%. Volkswagen held 8 models in the top 50, with the Gol as market leader.

Chevrolet was 3rd selling 12.828 units with a share of 15.3%, up 0.4 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 82.127 with a share of 14.7%. Chevrolet held 7 models in the top 50, with the Classic in 2nd position.

Ford was 4th posting a negative month with 10.025 vehicles with a share of 12.0%, down 1.9 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 74.304 with a share of 13.3%. The best-selling model was the Ecosport in 4th position.

Fiat was 5th, selling 9.285 units with a share of 11.1%, down 0.4 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 65.160 with a share of 11.7%. The top model was the Siena jumped to the 8th position.

Peugeot was 6th selling 9.085 vehicles with a share of 10.8%, up 0.5 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 59.188 with a share of 10.6%. The best-selling model was the 207 in 6th position.

Toyota was 7th selling 4.153 units with a share of 5.0%, down 0.9 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 32.537 with a share of 5.8%. The top model was again the Hilux, advanced in 7th place.

Citroen was 8th, selling 3.840 vehicles with a share of 4.6%, down 0.3 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 25.775 with a share of 4.6%. The best-selling was the C3 soared in 23rd position.

Volkswagen Gol was the market leader with 4.963 sales and a share of 5.9%, down 0.2 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 34.557 with a share of 6.2%.

Chevrolet Classic was 2nd with 3.700 units and a share of 4.4%, up 0.1 points from the previous month, followed by Renault Clio Mio in 3rd, up 2 spots from June, with 3.423 sales and a share of 4.1%, up 0.3 points from the previous month.

Ford Ecosport was 4th with 3.047 units and a share of 3.6%, down 0.6 points from the previous month, followed by Renault Sandero in 5th with 2.740 units and a share of 3.3%, up 0.7 points from the previous month, and by Peugeot 207 in 6th with 2.462 sales and a share of 2.9%, down 1.0 points from June.

Toyota Hilux was 7th with 2.256 units and a share of 2.7%, down 0.6 points from the previous month, followed by Renault Duster in 8th with 2.126 units and a share of 2.5%, down 0.1 points from the previous month.
