Australia Car Sales July 2016 declined feebly, after the record month of June. Ford gained one spot overtaking Mitsubishi while the Toyota Corolla was back on top of the models list.

Market Outlook

Australian economic activity seems to have moderated at the start of Q3 according to recent data. The overall picture is nevertheless somewhat better than expected, given the economic and political headwinds at home and abroad. In July, business confidence remained positive, albeit still below its long-term average.

Meantime, the Australian auto market posted in July a little down, for the second time this year.

According to data released by the FCAI, the Federation of Australian Car Manufacturers, July vehicles sales declined 3.3%, for a total of 89.292 sales.

Year to date July the registrations improved only 2.2% at 685.554 units, compared to the same period of the previous year.

Competive Arena

In July Toyota sold 17.465 vehicles (+3.7%) with 17.7% of market share. Mazda was second with 8.460 units (-9.6%) ahead of Hyundai with 7.603 (-10.7%).

Holden was fourth with 7.071 (-10.4%), Ford with 6.894 (+20.0%), Mitsubishi with 5.412 (+4.3%) and Nissan with 5.304 (+7.4%).

Great performances had been reported for Kia with 3.555 (+30.5%) and Jaguar, 27th with 259 units (+250.0%).

Weak sales for Jeep (-56.5%), Renault (-32.2%) and Fiat (-35.4%).

As far as the Car Groups performance, Toyota Group was the first with 19.9% of market share, ahead of Hyundai-Kia with 12.2%, Mazda with 9.3% and General Motors with 7.7%.

As far as the best-selling models performance, the Toyota Corolla dominated with 3.427 sales (-4.1%) followed by the Toyota Hilux with 3.136 (+21.6%), the Ford Ranger with 2.874 (+42.8%) the Hyundai i30 with 2.216 (-19.4%), the Toyota Camry with 2.172 (+2.3%) and the Mazda CX-3 with 1.744 (+35.8%).
