Australian Auto Market

Australian Auto Market in September welcomed Jeep in top 10 first time ever thanks to huge success of last generation of the Grand Cherokee and the booming SUVs trend. Mazda3 was back on top of the list in a little growing month.

In September 2014 according to data released by FCAI, the Federation of Australian Car Manufacturers, total new Light Passengers Vehicles sold in Australia have been 94.978, up 2.5% from the correspondent month last year.

Year-to-date September sales have been 832.953, down 1.4% from year ago with full year volume projection stable at 1.110.000 not far from the all-time record posted in the 2013.

As highlighted by Matt Gasnier, the brilliant editor of bestsellingcarsblog.com, “One category is pulling the Australian market up with all its strength: SUVs, up another 15% in September with small (+31%) and medium SUVs (+15%) doing best. All-in-all, SUVs now account for over 31% of the Australian new light vehicle market…”

This SUV booming is generated by a strong offer of new high tech, high style models and among these the new Jeep line up is shining with the brand entered in the top 10 ranking, first time ever with a 43.4% y.o.y. increase.

Recovering from a negative August, Mazda boosted sales 24.8% y.o.y keeping back the second place behind Toyota, while Hyundai was on the podium overtaking Holden.

In the Group Performance Ranking, Toyota led with 19.4% of share, ahead of Hyundai group at 11.5% and Mazda at 10.0%.

As far as the best-selling models, Mazda3 was back on top followed by Toyota’s Corolla and Hilux.
