Austrian Car Sales almost positive in the 2017, up 7% hitting the best performance in this decade, sustained by strong consumer confidence, dynamic labor market and PMI record level. Volkswagen dominates but Hyundai hits the fastest growth.

Austrian consumer confidence, supported by strong labor market dynamics, came in at the highest level in nearly eight years in November. Although growth in industrial production slowed in September, it is expected to pick up in the months ahead, as the PMI continued to increase. The PMI came in at the joint-highest level in the history of the survey in November on the back of stronger demand. This led manufacturers to take on more staff, which should bode well for private consumption; private consumption growth, however, will likely be limited by moderate wage growth. Sluggish retail sales growth points to a slowdown in private consumption, which should, however, benefit from the new government’s proposed tax reductions.

Austrian vehicles market is resilient to crisis and mature and in recent years has shown one of the most stable trend in Europe. In the 2017, according to data released by the local Association of Car Manufacturers, car passenger’s sales have been 353.596 (+7.3%) the best in this decade.

At brand-wise, Volkswagen is dominating with 58.740 sales (+3.9%) and 16.6% of market share, ahead of Skoda, second with 24.926 units (+19.1%) and Opel with 21.237 units (-5.8%).

In fourth place Ford with 20.762 units (+7.7%) followed by Renault with 19.968 (+4.7%), Hyundai with 19.913 sales (+18.8%) and BMW with 18.923 sales (-1.5%).
