Volkswagen Golf becomes the World Best-selling car.

Volkswagen Golf takes the leadership of the World Best-selling cars ranking in September improving volume by over 50% y/y while the rivals scored negative performance. Jeep Cherokee was again the fastest model among top 100, Toyota Hilux the slowest. Jeep Cherokee keeps on its run.

In September 2014 according to data collected by focus2move Research Team in over 110 markets, the total new Light Passengers Vehicles global market was up 3.4% from the previous year with 7.44 million units.

Year to date September global sales have been just over 64.53 million with an increase of 3.2% from year ago or 2.07 million more than the correspondent month last year.

Volkswagen Golf  posted a great increase from same period year ago (+51.7%) and jumped in first thanks to 97.326 units outpacing Corolla, Focus and F-Series. Year-to-date figures have been 699.690 or 1.1% of market share.

The absolute leader – Toyota Corolla – was second in September with 95.488 registrations, down 1.6% y.o.y., followed by Ford Focus with 84.002 units (-14.1%) and Ford F-Series with 72.629 sales (-2.0%).

Hyundai Elantra lost 10.9% from year ago however keeping the fifth place with 66.671 units, just ahead of Ford Fiesta with 65.697 pieces.

Wuling Hongguang advanced four steps from last month selling 60.652 vehicles, up 40.6% from year ago, while Volkswagen Polo came into the top 10 thanks to 59.208 retails or +1.2% from September 2013 volume.

Chevrolet Cruze was 9th selling 56.564 units (-5.7%) just ahead of Silverado scoring a strong performance (+48%) with 54.537 units sold this month.

The fastest model among top 100 was again the amazing Jeep Cherokee exploding at 18.346 sales and improving volume over 2300% from year ago.

Remarkable September performances have been scored by Nissan X-Trail (52th with 25.488 sales, +138.8%), Skoda Rapid (90th with 18.287 units, + 100%) and Audi A3 (27th with 33.209 units, + 93.5%)

Toyota Hilux had the slowest performance among top, down 29.4% from last year with 38.062 sales.

Among “Small Cars”, Ford Fiesta (65.697 sales, down 7.4%) regained the monthly leadership outpacing Volkswagen Polo (59.208 units, +1.2%). Honda Fit was stable in third with 40.429 units, up a robust 28.1%).

The “Compact Car” segment ranking reflects the absolute podium seen above with Golf, Corolla and Focus in the top 3.

In the “Mid-size Car” segment Toyota Camry led with 51.840 units (-19.9%), followed by Honda Accord (48.370 units, up 9.2%) and Volkswagen Lavida (45.830 units, up 8.4%). 

The “Full- size Car” segment podium has unchanged with BMW Series 5 (25.568 units, -11.2%) followed by Audi A6 (23.075 units, +3.4%) and Mercedes E Class (22.665 units, -16.8%).

Among SUV, the leader was the Honda CR-V with 49.974 units, just ahead of Toyota RAV4 (47.751 units), and Volkswagen Tiguan (36.905 cars)

In the Pick-up segment, Ford F-Series , Chevrolet Silverado and Toyota Hilux confirmed last month places on the first three steps of the podium.
