Brazil Car Market down 5% in February 2013. Hyundai HB20 sales boomed.

Following the strong performance posted in January, the Brazilian car market in February was slightly negative with 222.496 sales, down 5.7%, confirming an uncertain trend, with growing months alternate with falling. In the first two months of the year sales were 519.349, up 6.3%.

In February, Brazil’s government announced to raise the statutory monthly minimum wage by an above-inflation 9% to 678 Reais (330 US $) a month, effective January 1st, 2013. The Congress will formally approve it in March. Immediately Economists projected effects over consumer price inflation will come in at 5.7%, while the government had target it at 4.5%.

However, we believe booth increased salary level and inflation will push up the car demand confirming positive projection for the South American giant market.
