Brazilian Auto Market in September 2016

Brazilian Autos sales in September weaker than expected hitting the 30th year on year fall in a series. Hyundai advanced, while Fiat scored huge sales losst with Strada and Palio down.

Market Outlook

Brazil’s tattered economy improved in the second quarter, recording the smallest contraction in a year. The result came on the back of a less abysmal performance from the domestic economy, although broad-based declines were still recorded throughout. The economy appears to have picked up from rock bottom, but economic data is still poor.

The domestic vehicles market has not yet caught a glimpse of positive data in September, reporting an heavy lost,for the 30th time in a row.

According to data released by the Anfavea, the Brazilian Association of Car Manufacturers, in September the sales have been 154.979, down 19.5%. Year to date September the total light vehicles sales fell down 22.5%, at 1.459.075 units.

Competitive Arena

In September, Chevrolet retained the first step on the podium with 28.261 vehicles sold (+3.9%) with 18.2% of market share. Fiat was again in second place with 21.973 sales (-30.8%) ahead of Hyundai with 16.998 (+7.2%), Ford with 16.005 (-18.0%), Toyota with 14.391 (-0.1%), Renault with 12.139 (-14.1%) and Volkswagen with 11.786 (-56.0%).

As far as the Car Groups performance, the leader was General Motors with 16.9% of market share, ahead of FCA with 18.3%, Renault-Nissan with 10.4%, Hyundai-Kia with 10.5% and Ford with 9.0%.

The Chevrolet Onix was again the new the best-selling model with 15.592 sales (+23.3%) while the second was the Hyundai HB20  with 10.020 (-27.9%) ahead of the Ford Ka with 8.819 (-24.8%).

The Chevrolet Prisma advanced in 4th place with 5.344 (+13.5%) followed by the Renault Sandero with 4.992 (-21.6%), the Toyota Corolla with 4.797 (-16.9%), the Jeep Renegade with 4.456 (-21.5%), the Fiat Strada with 4.409 (-38.0%) and the Fiat Palio with 3.920 (-55.0%).
